MS Blvd OPEN 1/19
Monte Sano Boulevard Open as of 2:00pm Friday Jan 19
MSB is clear to Governors. There is approximately 10-25% slush coverage on the Boulevard that will likely freeze over again tonight, Friday Jan 19 through Sunday Jan 21.
Most, if not all, vehicles near Governors have been moved and drivers are doing 40-50mph on Governors. When returning home, be careful coming up Governors to make a left on MSB as the ice is still in the left turn lane nearly all the way to the traffic light. As of 12:30pm, the downtown Publix was nearly fully stocked, and multiple stockers were on each food aisle.
Side streets and residential streets have NOT been plowed or treated - and remain extremely icy. Sidewalks, driveways and side streets are covered in sheets of ice at least half an inch thick. If traveling by foot - use traction devices on your shoes like ‘ice cleats’ or YakTrax and inform someone of your route in the case of an emergency.
You can find North Alabama road closures and notices on WAAY-31’s website or the Huntsville Police Department’s Facebook Page
Non-essential travel is still discouraged.
If you must depart your home and the mountain:
Use extreme caution as roads will likely ice over again as it gets colder
AWD or 4WD is best
If you are making a grocery/pharmacy run – ask any icebound neighbors if they need anything
Please note that we’re not out of woods yet – roads will likely ice over again.
Stay safe, warm, and keep in touch with your neighbors!
